Ocean rower partners with Gloucester Rowing Club

Gloucester Rowing Club has teamed up with Ocean Rower and Endurance Athlete, Martyn Thornton, to promote the clubs’ new venue as a regional centre for paddle sports and assist each other in raising sponsorship.

 The athlete and adventurer will be tackling his latest long distance challenge in 2020 by rowing the Atlantic Ocean Solo. Martyn is undertaking the row as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a 3000 mile test of endurance, hardship and stamina. 

 The club will work with Martyn to provide a comprehensive training programme over the next 18 months to ensure he is rowing fit for the challenge. 

 Jointly they will be undertaking a number of high profile events to promote the club, the ocean row and to raise sponsorship funds.

The first of these events will be the Gloucester Rowing Club Regatta over the August Bank holiday weekend, Sat 23rdand Sun 24th.

 Martyn commented that “the support of the Gloucester Rowing Club together with access to their training facilities goes a long way to helping me achieve my goal to row across the Atlantic solo in 2020”.

 Robert Dibley, Chairman of the club said: “Martyn’s latest endurance challenge is an excellent opportunity for us to promote our new headquarters to a broader audience of paddle sports enthusiasts and beginners alike”.
