Endurance Athlete and Ocean Rower, Martyn Thornton, has teamed up with the University of Gloucestershire to deliver real world case study opportunities for the students of the Post Graduate Degree in Communications, PR and the Media (MA).
The athlete and adventurer will be tackling his latest long distance challenge in 2020 by rowing the Atlantic Ocean Solo. The students will work with Martyn to provide a comprehensive spectrum of publicity and utilise the opportunity to integrate a ‘live’ case study into their course work and Post Graduate module requirements.
Martyn is undertaking the row as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a 3000 mile test of endurance, hardship and stamina.
The Post Graduate syllabus will provide participants with the expertise needed to create communications campaigns across digital, social, TV and print media in conjunction with a Media Centre that includes professional-standard film, TV, music and news studios as well as editing suites, Mac equipment and production galleries.
Martyn commented that “the support of the Post Grad students and their onsite facilities is an invaluable resources to help attract local and national sponsors as well as raise substantial sums for the charities I’m supporting”.
Malcolm Bradbrook, senior lecturer in Journalism at the University said: “Martyn’s latest endurance challenge is an excellent opportunity for our students to apply their learnings in a real world scenario”.
The course will take place at the university's Park Campus along with relevant support provided to Martyn at various sponsorship raising events.
